Application to the Fourth Degree must be made by post to the Secretary’s office in Appleby-in-Westmorland. Electronic applications are not accepted. The application must include a personal statement and is assessed by the Warden directly. The Institution does not publish acceptance rates for the Fourth Degree but notes that they are lower than for the Second and Third.
Fourth Degree access includes: the 1247 Document in full (pages 5–7), subject to the condition that contents are not described in writing; the ORBITAL 1961 observation sections 3, 5, and 7; the four prior instances of correlated polar deviation and their characteristics; the specific conclusion of the Samarkand Correspondence final letter; and the Tesla northern question answer, as given by the then-Warden in 1900.
