The Institution Acknowledges the 2019 MERIDIAN Elevation
26 February 20261 min read
The Institution wishes to note, for the public record, that the operational status of the Office of Polar Operations (MERIDIAN) was elevated to Elevated in March 2019. This status has not been revised.
The Institution is aware that speculation regarding the reason for this elevation has appeared in various online forums. The Institution does not engage with speculation. The Institution notes that the speculation has, in several instances, been more accurate than might be expected by chance. The Institution does not comment on this observation.
The elevation was triggered by readings at both polar stations that are consistent with prior observations at known intervals. The Institution has documented four prior instances of similar readings. The dates of those instances are available in the public Station Log (MERIDIAN North, March 2019). The characteristics of those prior instances are available through the fellowship system from the Second Degree.
The Institution continues to monitor. The Institution will publish further statements if and when it determines that publication serves the public interest. The Institution’s assessment of what serves the public interest is its own.
